Engineering Director :

- American Express is seeking an experienced professional to join our Mainframe Systems team as an Engineering Director to lead the Mainframe, Middleware, Security Capabilities Operations and Database Operations teams based in Bangalore, India. 

- As our Director you will be responsible for leading our local Bangalore office in support of our diverse technology portfolio, supporting many of the TIER-1 high-demand platforms including Datapower, APIGEE, Single Sign On Internet, SSO Intranet, Application Data Protection, Abinitio, Informatica, MicroStrategy and Mainframe.

- In this position you will need to collaborate with Technology leaders in Phoenix and Florida to provide guidance for the global organizational direction.

What you will be doing :

- Provide strong leadership to a local team by establishing clear direction, a productive culture, and goals in pursuit of the overall strategy and roadmap.

- Drive ongoing enhancements to skills, tools and processes to produce highly effective and efficient resource utilization.

- Collaborate with onsite team and ensure coverage for 24x7 operations, incident management bridge calls, change implementations, upgrades/patches etc.

- Assist with incident management bridge calls with focus on service restoration; and Root cause analysis (RCA) to prevent incident reoccurrence.

- Assist end to end Performance Monitoring, Capacity Management to ensure high availability and resiliency.

- Continuously seek improvements to automated remediation tasks to ensure the highest levels of availability.

- Continuously seek the identification of all single points of failures across the technology stack of high-demand applications.

- Cultivate an environment of continuous engineering improvement through mentoring, feedback and metrics.

- Assist with operating model change to ensure an optimal balance is achieved between colleagues and vendor partner resources.

- Develop, foster and mature relationships with local vendor partners to enable increased value to American Express.

- Execute performance reviews and career growth plans.

- Cultivate an environment of continuous engineering improvement through mentoring, feedback and metrics.

Qualifications :

- A BS degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience.

- 10+ years of hands-on experience in exclusively leading high availability systems operations.

- Experience with Middleware, Database, Security and Mainframe technologies.

- Experience with supporting high-demand, highly available applications.

- Hands-on experience with operating models for geographically dispersed 24X7 operations.

- Track record of results, and ability to collaborate and affect change across functions.

- Demonstrated management and leadership experience with teams of 25+ people.

- Experience with ITIL processes including availability management, incident management, problem management, change management, etc.

- Experience in using Agile Practices.

- Experience in DevOps methods and principles.

- Ability to implement and operate processes and methodologies in a manner that effectively supports standard compliance objectives.

- Excellent judgment in the pursuit of higher standards.

- A passion ability to learn and deep dive into new technology, question status quo and think outside of the box to build and nurture high efficiency teams.

- Experience attracting, hiring and retaining top talent.

- Have excellent written and verbal communications skills.

- Create and deliver effective presentations to Senior Leadership.
